Although work stress may be all too normal, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t learn how to properly cope with it or overcome it. If you continue to just let the stress eat away at you, it is likely that this stress can develop into chronic stress, which can develop into long-term anxiety. It is important to note, that whether or not you previously have suffered from anxiety or have begun to develop it, living with anxiety without the necessary tools or motivation to overcome it can be dangerous for your health.

When it comes to facing your anxiety, it is important that you do just that, face it. In order to conquer it, you will need to learn to embody a new mindset. So, let’s go over some tips that you can use to practice dealing with anxiety at work

#1 Don’t work against your anxiety

Trying to suppress your anxiety can sometimes make it worse and more overwhelming because the attempt or failure to suppress it can add on itself to that existing anxiousness. Rather learn to accept your anxiety and let it in. Your body is trying to tell you something, and anxiety is a natural response to stress. By accepting that you may encounter anxious situations, you will then be able to move forward.

#2 Be mindful of your anxiety

Whenever you are feeling anxious, try and identify what your thoughts and feelings are, and try to understand where they are coming from. Having an understanding of why you are feeling a certain way can make all the difference when it comes to managing your feelings.

#3 Remember that your mind isn’t always who you should be paying attention to
Sometimes our minds can wander a bit too far and unhealthy thoughts can creep in. Remember that sometimes these thoughts are the truth and make the decision as to whether or not said thoughts are worth your attention.

#4 Take a breather
If you are starting to feel anxious, take a break. Go outside and get some fresh air. Changing your surroundings, even for a short time, can really help you calm down.

#5 Talk to someone

Voicing your feelings and thoughts can be really helpful for managing anxiety. Talk to friends and family or even a trusted co-worker. You may even find that they are suffering from similar stresses.

#6 Try and manage your caffeine intake

Too much caffeine can increase your heart rate and feed your anxiety. If you notice you are suffering from anxiety at work, try laying off the coffee.

#7 Take care of yourself
Remember that taking care of yourself outside of work can make a difference in how you handle or feel anxiety at work. Maintain a healthy diet and sleep schedule as well as making sure you are getting enough exercise.

#8 Seek help from an expert
